Come celebrate the richness and diversity of Asian culture in Asian Fusion Festival on Saturday, May 31st 2008 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM @ The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin, IL 60120 (downtown Elgin)

Through out the day there will be interactive craft demonstrations, including Indonesian Batik Exhibition, Thai Fruits Carving by Mdm. Bepongkum, and Chinese Calligraphy painting by Yellow River Performing Arts. Stand back as advanced martial artists demonstrate their talents, courtesy of the Kim’s Black Belt Academy from Elgin, IL. The Taste of Asia will delight your palate. There will be “Big Bucks” to be won in our Raffle and “Bid Big” to win in our Silent Auction.

Simply Asia – Avenue of the Cultural Performance” highlights include performances of music and dance from all over Asia. Singing from the Land of America, the Star Spangle Banner be performed by Ms. Alejandra Cano, CMMS Music Teacher. Thrill to a traditional Lion Dance bringing good fortune to all by Chicago Chinese Cultural Center. Witness the spirited dances of Unity in Rhythm by Rentak Asia Performing Arts (children of Country Meadows Montessori School, Gurnee, IL. Experience the enduring sounds and sights of the African Daimano (Roots) Dancers & Drummers of Chicago. Lotus Pond by Moonlight, a Chinese dance by Yellow River Performing Arts of Naperville, IL. Indonesian Ensemble “Angklung” by the Indonesian Consulate of Chicago, IL. Enjoy the national dance of the Philippines; Samahang Kapatid Illinois is a Filipino-American Youth Group performing the Tinikling, a popular bamboo dance. Delight in the colorful costumes of Chinese dance performed by the Xilin Asian Association from Naperville ,IL. Enjoy authentic costumes and vivacious rhythms of Asian dance performed by the Pan Asian Cultural Group – Rentak Asia Performing Arts. A traditional Indian dance Kathak, performed by Gauri Jog Indian Classical Dance. Enjoy the serenity of Thailand with a dance by Thai Cultural Fine Arts Institute. Korean drum and dance ensemble from Choomsarang Korean Dance Group of Northbrook, IL. The nine swaying motions of dance presented by iPAC – Indonesian Performing Arts of Chicago. The peacock symbolizes happiness, beauty, serenity and good luck for Asian cultures in a dance by RAPA Little Stars of Gurnee, IL. The South East Asia Youth Program of YWCA Elgin will charm you with a graceful dance from Laos. Take a journey to the South Pacific Islands with Halau ‘O Manulani in a dance from Tahiti.

Whether you come to be thrilled by the performances, to enjoy a delectable array of Asian fare, or try your hand at one of the crafts, this event promises to be a fun-filled day for visitors of all ages.
